Day 1 The first craving you have for a smoke, wait 1 hour before you let yourself have it. What i mean is, when your about to go out for your first smoke, wait for atleast a hour. Go as long as you can if you can go longer. If you are at work, try and wait for your next coffee break or lunch break. So you should go as long as you possible can before having your first smoke. Then im sure you need to give in, so go ahead, and dont feel bad, its going to take time.

Day 2 Repeate day 1, but try for an extra hour.

- Do this untill you go the first 8 hours of the day without having a smoke. If you try for a bit longer each and everyday, you should be able to do this in 7 - 10 days. One thing to remember is that you should keep this up untill you only have 5 smokes or less in the last half of the day.

- By now, you should be looking forward to your first smoke, but you should feel good about cutting your smoking habbits down by half if not more. Remember you should not binge smoke once you have your first, keep it under 5 smokes after that, untill you go to sleep.

- Keep this routine untill you have gone a steady 2 weeks. If your having trouble, use 1 or 2 of the natural remedies below.

- Now here comes the part where you flip everything around. Now in the moring when you get up, the first chance you get, have a smoke. You may notice its not the same, maybe you dont enjoy it as much either. This is good! If you did this correctly you shouldnt enjoy it as much as you were enjoying the smoke at the end of the day. Now go the whole day without having a smoke, and have a few in the evening before you go to bed.

- Do this untill you can have one smoke in the moring, and 2 smokes in the evening for a total of 3 smokes a day. Do this for a soild week, if you screw up, try again. You have to do this for a SOILD WEEK! ONLY 3 SMOKES! You can do it! If your having trouble, use 1 or 2 of the natural remedies below.

- Now your gonna get up in the moring, and want your smoke, but your not going to have it, your going to have 1 today, only 1! you pick when you want it, but DO NOT CHEAT! ONLY 1! You can do it!

- Keep doing this untill you are only having one smoke a day for atleast 2 weeks. YES 2 weeks! and everytime you cheat, you start all over again. If your finding this difficult, you can try 1 to 3 of the natural remedies in the list below to help you get dependant on only one smoke. You still get your smoke, but your only having one! So choose when to have it wisely!

The next step is knowing that EVERYONE can quit! I dont care if you'v been addicted to heroin, speed and crack for 30 years, you can still quit! People dont realize a possitive attitude is the key to achieving anything. If you dont think in your mind that you can quit, you never will, and you might as well stop reading, and have a smoke. Those who are ready to beleive that they have it in them to quit, lets continue.

After realizing you dont "need" a smoke and that it is possible for you to quit, the third step is to practice quitting something less addictive. This works on self control, and confidence. So pick a bad habbit, or useless activity such as staring mindlessly at the tv for hours every night, and stop! Give it up for a few weeks. Some other examples are, bitting nails, cracking your nuckles, swearing, eating junk food, eating fast food, drinking booz, spending money on useless stuff, and masterbating exsesivly. Just about any compulsive action that you might do that is potentally harmful to your health that you dont "need" to survive is acceptable. Choose one that you think you can give up for month. Now remember, this is used to quit smoking, so this excersie WILL NOT work if you smoke as a substitute. You must continue your regular smoking habbits or even try slowing them down to prepare for the quitting fase.

If you picked a bad habbit to break and did it for a solid month, you should no longer feel a "need" for it. You may still think about it, you may still even want it, but you are stong enough to say NO! If you did this correctly, you should feel good about yourself, you should feel confident, and you are now ready for the next step.

Here comes the hard part, but you know you are ready, you can do anything! Stay Positive! Go to your doctor, tell him you are about to quit smoking, tell him the steps you have done already and that you are ready to make the committment. He should be able to give you some adivce and help you get started. Dont use the patch or gum yet! Before you go ahead and do anything, try following these steps.

Nicotine is an addictive drug found in tobacco.

We all know the harmful long term and sort term side effects of tobacco. Tobacco companies themselfs warn us on the packages that their product is the leading cause of death in north america. Yet they continue to market it and the goverment makes to much money off the sales of tobacco to ever de-legalize it. The sad truth is the goverment cares more about money then they will ever care about our health.

The next part is my personal opionon, please do not become offended.

Smokers who started in the past 10 years when it was publiclly known how harmful smoking was, created their own pain. Everyone in this world has the ability to make desicions, and the decsion not to smoke should be an easy one to make. Now not everyone was smart enough to make the desicion in the first place, but many come to realize the mistake years down the road. Those people often say things like "i WISH i could quit" or "i WISH i never started smoking" These types of statments are weak minded statments, and its obvious that these were the same people who made the stupid mistake in the first place.

I know all the medical information about addictions. I realize how they work, and how powerful they can be. I know nicotine, like other addictive drugs, creates a chemical dependancy, so that the body developes a "need" for certain levels of nicotine at all times. If this level is not maintained the body will go thru withdrawal. Withdrawal from nicotine can be as serious as withdrawal from cocaine but what people need to realize is that withdrawaling from nicotine never killed anyone. So withdrawal is probably better for you then smoking in the first place. Your body obviously doesnt "need" the smoke, it just wants it so it doesnt have to go thru withdrawls.

People who say they "need" a smoke should prolly just go ahead and have it anyways and kill themselfs faster. Most of us know what the nessecitys for life are, and smoking is deffeintly not one of them. This just goes to show what state of mind some smokers have. People should be saying "i want a smoke", this is the first step to quitting belive it or not. Realizing that you do not "need" a smoke is the key, from here you can make the next changes to your attitude.

FYI

A University of Oxford, England, study finds that tobacco, alcohol, and diet abuse are the three leading causes of cancer in developed countries. Although scientists are still learning about how certain foods contribute to cancer, what is known, is that diet, alcohol, and obesity play a major role in cancer development.

About 30 percent of cancers are linked to tobacco, while alcohol is responsible for 6 percent of cancer cases and diet is involved in 25 percent of cases. Alcohol can cause cancers of the mouth, throat, and liver. Tobacco products can cause cancers of the lungs, throat, mouth, nose, and more. Diet abuse is responsible for cancers in the organs as well as the brain and epidermis.

Addiction Myths

There are many myths about addictions. This is my attempt to clear a few of them up.

One myth that is pretty popular is the one claiming that positive addictions are good for you. There is no such thing as a positive addiction, addictions are self-destructive and always lead to negitive effects.

Myth number 2 and probably the biggest is; Certain substances are addictive. Well this is true if you change that sentence to; Certain substances *can* or *might* be addictive. Ill explain. After surgery, patients are sometimes allowed to self-administer morphine. Morphine is the medical form of heroin. Yet most people who rely on morphine after surgery, don't get addicted to it. Millons of people smoked marijuana. Relatively few who use it, use it to the point of abuse. Almost everyone has had a drink before. But few acually become alcoholics because if it. Or what about sex? 99 percent of us have sex at one time in our lives, and many of us have sex constantly but we dont develop an addiction. And finally millions of people have experimented with cocaine, crack and other hard drugs. Many become addicts, but not everyone.

The point is that people dont nessacarly become addicted to a substance becasue of the substance, but becasue of thier choice. We all have made a choice about substances. Most of us have tried one form or another of an 'addictive' substance or activity, but yet many of us remain addiction free. Although our brains develop addictions becasue of a dependance created by our brains. This dependence is because certian drugs and activities produce iregular levels of chemicals that make us feel good. Then over time, our bodys stop producing it naturally, and then we crave the drug that re-administers it. Will power and self respect and control are more powerful in the beginning than any addiction. And we all have the ability to change our behaviours. Substances don't take you over and make you act in an addictive fashion any more than: Cars make you drive, and books make you read.

Will anyone who uses an addictive substance too much become addicted? Not nessacarly, resent studies have proven that addiction can be hereditary. We know this does not occur in everyone, any more than diabetes occurs in everyone who eats to much sugar or food. In many cases, genetics is one factor for determining who develops the disorder.

Addiction can be hereditary. This myth is slightly true. It is proven that some people have an 'addictive personality' or have certain personality traits that an addict might have. We have linked certain characteristics of genes to addictions and have proven that certain genes are hereditary. Does this mean that addiction IS hereditary? Maybe. There is thousands of people who have had addictions and thier parents have never. Many people have severe addictions and have children, and the children never form any addictions. This being said, ill let you decide if addictions are hereditary.
